Infobox at Etzel

Most recently, we expanded the cavern information centre by setting up a so called “Info Box” at the Etzel site. The Info Box serves as starting point for tours of the premises at the IVG cavern facility. It is also used for presentations to groups of visitors.

„The purpose of the Info Box is to provide detailed information, and to do so in a vibrant manner,” said Manfred Wohlers, Managing Director of IVG Caverns GmbH. “It is not an easy thing to do when the subject is caverns deep underground,” Wohlers added. Exhibits such as a scale model of the Etzel salt dome with its caverns, and an interactive “information column” featuring films are supposed to whet the interest of visitors. Also, salt drilling cores, charts, and brochures show how the ground strata are structured.

“This gives local residents an opportunity to form their own idea of the work being done on location, and the learn more about the background of cavern construction,” said Hans Joachim Schweinsberg, Head of the Cavern Information Centre, who gathered the exhibits.

The Info Box at the IVG site of Etzel consists of several storage-type containers, and is decorated with large colourful banners. It supplements IVG's cavern information centre, which so far has used an Internet portal and a public hotline to generate public awareness. “We are taking concerns very serious and seek to enter into a dialogue with people – and this is one of the things the Info Box is meant to demonstrate,” said Hans Joachim Schweinsberg.

Starting December 6, 2010, the Info Box will be staffed and open to the public Mondays through Thursdays between 09:00 and 16:00 CET, and Fridays between 09:00 and 13:00 CET.
