Cavern information center Etzel
The cavern site of IVG Immobilien AG in Etzel (20 km south-west of Wilhelmshaven) has strategic implications for the supply guarantee in Germany. Amongst other supplies, parts of the Federal German Oil Reserve are stored in Etzel.
The site is located in the heart of the Northern German energy hub. We have been in the cavern business since 1971, gathering a wealth of experience both in the construction and in the operation and letting of caverns.
Our cavern system currently includes 52 caverns suitable for storing a combined volume of about 25 million cubic metres of petroleum and gas. Plans call for the construction of another 85 caverns by 2022. To this end, we invest approximately 100 million Euros a year. The ongoing expansion of the caverns is necessary because a secure energy supply will be instrumental in ensuring growth and prosperity for the people of Germany.
That said, we cannot ignore the fact that parts of the public nevertheless take a critical view of the current cavern project: Some people anticipate major changes to the region and the landscape.
We take the worries of people very serious and are therefore committed to engage the local citizenry in an ongoing dialogue. Having all the facts on the table is most certainly of the essence.
Accordingly, we launched our new online portal “Cavern information center Etzel” as a first step at www.kavernen-informationszentrum-etzel.de.
This website is our information room on the Etzel cavern project. It is intended to facilitate quick orientation and to provide in-depth information about our cavern site at the same time. The website addresses itself both to the local residents and to the general public, bringing you recent and transparent updates on current issues concerning our activities in Etzel. In addition, we set up a telephone hotline for local citizens. This gives you a chance to contact our specialists directly in order to make inquiries or to share your concerns.
